Not knowing how to get to the university, he discreetly followed two other students and met Mitsuo Yanagisawa, another first-year student, who quickly became friends with him. On their way to orientation, they were greeted by a beautiful young woman who offered Mitsuo a bouquet of roses and then hit him with them before leaving. Mitsuo later explained that the woman was Kouko Kaga, his childhood friend and arranged fiancée, from whom he had run away because he did not share her feelings. After orientation, Banri and Mitsuo found out that Kouko was also a student at their university, much to Mitsuo's dismay. She was introduced to Banri during a common class, and he quickly fell in love with her. After class, Banri met and befriended first-year student Chinami Oka and Linda, a second-year student and member of the Japanese Festival Culture Research Club. On his way home, he encountered Kouko again, who used his phone to locate Mitsuo, but when she returned it to him, he noticed a hospital's phone number, which made him remember a time when he was on a bridge and seemed to have been hit by a motorcycle.
